musings from the road
Today, I drove 1 hour, met with my new Avon lady for 45 minutes, and drove 1 hour back. I am a brand-new Avon rep.! I'll get back to that.
On my drive to and from, I saw the following things:
- a sign advertising golf balls 10 cents. Coming up to it, you didn't know how much they cost because the price was blocked by a snowmobile. Then you had to turn really quick if you needed those golf balls!
- Christmas lights on several houses. Apparently it's just easier to leave them up?
- saddlebags on a sport bike. Yes, it looked really silly!
- 2 trucks carrying hay bales (you know why I listed that one!)
- gas for $3.17! I paid $3.19 in town last night. If only I'd waited...
- a white-speckled black chicken pecking the ground by the side of the road
- red gingerbread on a white house
- a road named Elmer Smith
- a Ford dealership in seemingly the middle of nowhere (no offence to the neighbors!)
- a round barn (neat!)
- a garage that boasted "deer damage specialists" (that could be handy on a country road...)
- orange flames on an electric blue mailbox
- a gravel pit that was for sale
It was a gorgeous day in upstate NY and I only wished I could have stopped to enjoy some of the little shops in the little towns I drove thru. Unfortunately, I sandwiched this Avon meeting in between morning work and afternoon work, so that was not to be. I did stop for an iced raspberry latte at a cute coffee shop next to a fun rubber stamping/scrapbooking store. Yes, I bought a couple of things there, and no, I didn't really like the latte. sigh.
This is what kept me awake during my drive:
- Fritz's Polka Band "The Party Continues"
- The Best of the 80s
- Great Big Sea "Something Beautiful"
- a Christian bluegrass album called "O Brother...What Now?!"
So now I have to go through all the Avon stuff I got today and get the word out on the street. And figure out just how much time I want to put into my 3rd part time job!
