Where do I belong?

A few weeks ago, on Facebook, I posted Lauren Daigle's You Say video with the caption "When I don't belong, YOU say I am Yours". People liked it. People said what an encouraging song this is. One friend even said You do belong! But I haven't been feeling it, not really, not for a long time. I googled BELONG: It is a verb with 2 definitions.  1. be the property of. 2. be a member or part of (a particular group, organization, or class). Turns out, I've been concerned with the 2nd definition and either ignoring or not realizing the 1st one. Huh. I am single. 99% of the time I am very content in my status But lately, I've come to realize that I am completely surrounded by married people - my co-workers, those I worship with, the people I follow on Instagram. They're everywhere! See? Definition 2. So it was with excitement and trepidation that I attended my very first Singles Conference, hosted by Family Life fln....

in that i broke up with my band

Image
(for Darren) Several months ago, I posted on Facebook that I had broken up with the band, or something. Darren wanted to know what I was talking about. It's taken this long, but now I'm writing about it. On November 18, 2011, my dad was diagnosed with ALS.  The same night, I went to Syracuse to see Scythian [the band I had been following] open for a band I had only heard about, Enter The Haggis. Mom called me on my drive up to tell me about Dad. I arrived at the concert feeling, well, numb, I guess. I don't know how else to describe it. I saw friends; I guess I enjoyed the concert. One song stood out. "I'm not gonna stand on the end of the pier/I'm not gonna let you go down with the ship." They were sending it out to someone for some reason or another, but it resonated with me - I needed something to hang on to. Over the next 2 1/2 years, I followed Enter The Haggis almost exclusively. I did see Scythian a couple of times, but it was ETH that I was...

I wanna be an Emilie Loring heroine

Emilie Loring is an author who's books were originally published in the 1920s & 30s. They are full of adventure. And handsome men. The heroine is never "beautiful." Instead, she has violet eyes framed by dark lashes, a pert nose, a wide smile. Oh, and she wears well-tailored clothing. The men, well, the hero, has clear gray eyes, smokes a cigarette now & then, and says "damn!" The bad guys' eyes are always set too close together. In more than one book, the hero & heroine get married in the first few pages: they are found together in an abandoned cabin (because she chased a run-away dog and he chased her) or her car breaks down outside a saloon, the bad guy's there, the hero walks in, sees it's his enemy/a bad situation, says, "I thought I told you not to meet me here!" and they get married so they can leave together. etc. Then they go on to have all sorts of adventures, not telling anyone about that cabin by the tracks, meanwhil...

Savior of the world

I cannot tell why He, whom angels worship,   Should set His love upon the sons of men, Or why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wand’rers,   To bring them back, they know not how or when. But this I know, that He was born of Mary,   When Bethl’hem’s manger was His only home, And that He lived at Nazareth and labored,   And so the Savior, Savior of the world, is come. I cannot tell how silently He suffered,   As with His peace He graced this place of tears, Or how His heart upon the Cross was broken,   The crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, He heals the broken-hearted,   And stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear, And lifts the burden from the heavy laden,   For yet the Savior, Savior of the world, is here. I cannot tell how He will win the nations,   How He will claim His earthly heritage, How satisfy the needs and aspirations   Of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all f...

now. With the wind, I fear, it is much colder than that outside. I'm wearing a hoodie inside (I never do that!) and I'm drinking hot chocolate (I do that all the time) and I'm still feeling a chill. BRRR! That said, I would rather it be cold in January than July.

time to revive the old blog

Hillahn is mean to me. she makes me write poems. this is very hard. i blame her for the revival. we'll see what happens...

postcard christianity

"When my husband and I visited Mt. Rainier, the highest point in the United States, I expected to see some spectacular sights. But for 2 days the mountain remained shrouded in clouds. So instead of taking pictures, I bought postcards. Our vacation caused me to question the way I portray my faith to people around me. Do I present a "postcard" view of Christianity? Do I give the false impression that my life is always sunny - that my view of God is always clear? That's not what David did. In the passion-filled poetry of Psalm 13, he admitted that he couldn't see God and didn't understand what He was doing (v.1). But by the end of his prayer, he was certain that what he couldn't see was nevertheless there because he had see it before in God's bountiful care (vv.5-6). Christians are like people living at the foot of Mt. Rainier. They've seen the mountain before, so they know it exists even when clouds are covering it. When suffering or confusion obscu...

bad blogger!

Howdy, y'all! I've been meaning to post pictures from my trip, but I don't have the internet in my place and the pictures are on my laptop. Transferring them to my parents computer - that does have the internet - is a pain. So, pictures are coming, I just don't know when. I was thinking maybe today I can go somewhere and post pictures from my laptop. Coming Soon....... xo

travel

Well, I'm off to Seattle to attend WWC. I don't want to go. I am terrible at packing, but I think it's almost done. I already said bye to everyone. I feel like I don't fit in on either coast. I'm headed to RF after WWC. I'd rather just go there. (No offense to my West Coast friends.) I spent most of today working on VC stuff to help Mom out. I'm whiny and I have a killer headache and I can't find stuff that I need to pack. And I don't have a job. Wow. Anybody wanna be my friend? Sorry about that. Rough week & a half. Love you! xo

home again, home again (?)

Greetings from humid Vestal, NY. I arrived home around 9 p.m. Friday evening. It was a trying day. I didn't get enough sleep on Thursday night and had lots of traffic & weather from there on. It made me realize how much I appreciated that open roads that were out west. Oh, right. A correction is in order. I spent Thursday night in Portage, Indiana rather than Gary. I was on the phone going thru Chicago AND Gary, IN. I got to Portage and decided I was too tired to go on. So that's where I crashed. At yet another over-priced room. But the wireless was great - yay! :) After spending full days in Wyoming & Nebraska, I was in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania & New York on Friday. It rained in the last 3, often so hard that it was difficult to see. And even harder to take pictures of the "Welcome to [blank]" signs. Grr! I stopped only for gas or food and not to see any points of interest. Which doesn't add any interest. I did, however, drive thru Cleveland. At o...

in case i didn't send you the email - sorry!

Greetings! I apologize for the lack of communication. I have been unable to obtain a wireless connection until tonight. So where have I been? On Saturday, the 7th of June, I left Kirkland's Cafe Ladro at 8 a.m. Pacific Time. I traveled 405 - 90 - 82 - 84 - 86 to American Falls, Idaho. I stopped to see the Teapot Dome and Darigold. I stopped at several scenic overlooks to take pictures. I arrived at my friends' house at 10:15 p.m. Mountain Time. That was a very long day! Marc & Michelle and their beautiful daughters welcomed me with open arms. I spent Sunday with them and left Monday after a leisurely breakfast. Monday was spent driving to Salt Lake City. I saw the Great Salt Lake from the freeway, but was unable to get to it when I tried getting off the [most likely wrong] exit. So I drove around downtown SLC and didn't want to pay for parking, so headed back to the freeway. The drive out of SLC to Park City is fabulous! I didn't actually go into the city itself, ju...

travel

Howdy, y'all! I left Seattle on Saturday, June 7th. I arrived in Aberdeen, ID at 10 that evening. It's a 12-hour trip and I made several stops along the way. But even with all those stops, I still made it in 13 hours! Yesterday was really nice - it was neat to finally be here! M & M had a sing last night. It was the young people and the young couples. I got to hold Amanda Sue. She's too cute! This morning is bright and sunny and I'm not sure whether to go to Jackson Hole or Salt Lake City. The choices one must make, eh?! I'll keep you posted. xo

coming soon...

The AHL All-Star Game from Binghamton, NY. Stay tuned... xo

oh, how...

ferry ride

I finally got on another ferry. Hey, they cost money and you have to have the time to go somewhere... Anyways, a bunch of us went to Bainbridge Island for dinner Saturday night. We ate at Cafe Nola and it was FAB! But then we had to run to catch the 10:30 ferry back to Seattle. But it was FUN!!! :) And I think I could live over there. :)

this & that & the holidays

So I finally remembered my sign-in name and password so I can post an anonymous blog again. Hope you haven't forgotten about me... School is hard, but at least there are cute boys. Gay, emo ones, but cute, none-the-less... Josh is the hottest and he's straight, married, and, um, not sure what other word I'm looking for. But he made drawing class fun to go to, if for no other reason than that I got to look at him! ;) I've been on a few dates. Twice to Subway with R1. None with R2, and I actually think I'm okay with that. Once for drinks & dinner with M. Once with J for beers and dinner - that was last night. M & J are definitely the cute ones. R1 & R2 are cute, but I'm kinda over them. See, I told R2 where I stood on a bunch of stuff - mainly "I believe in God" - and I haven't heard from him since. I think that's a little wierd, cuz he was totally into me before that conversation, but whatevs. It's probably for the best. I am s...

music, in the third person

KMC has been trying to release stargal's inner hippie. Last week, stargal's inner raver said NO! and started listening to an old tape of a dj-friend. Then stargal went to a friend's church for a worship/testimony thing. Stargal appears to be confused in the music department.

:)

I heard "Romeo in Black Jeans" today when I was out shopping and it really made my day! :)

anniversary

HOORAY!!!!! For those of you who don't remember, this date in 2005 was very important to me. It was the day I had my microdiskectomy - back surgery - to remove part of my L5-S1 vertebra and thereby cease compression of my sciatic nerve. The surgery was sucessful! And today, I am fairly pain-free. Figures that today, of all days!, I wouldn't have time to do my back exercises. So there's a little bit of tightness that is warning me to not sit for too long. Just had to share!

movie review

Ok, so this is not something I normally do. However, I was so disappointed in the last movie I saw that I just had to post. Um, it's also not really a review. Rather, it's a few comments on the last 2 movies I saw - both this week. This afternoon, I went to our local Cinema Saver and watched the break up . Thankfully, I waited until the second run and didn't see it in the theater because I'm not sure it was even worth the $2! Granted Jen is HOT and I would love to have her body, but it was a pretty boring movie. Parts of it reminded me a lot of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days - which I loved - but they weren't as funny. At least in HTLAGITD they get back together in the end. (Wait, if you haven't seen either and want to, sorry...) Gary (Vince) finally realizes that he really does love Brooke (Jen) but she "doesn't know how she feels" and then the movie ends without us knowing if she ever did figure it out. Although I guess that "I Can See Clearly...
