in case i didn't send you the email - sorry!
Greetings!
I apologize for the lack of communication. I have been unable to obtain a wireless connection until tonight.
So where have I been?
On Saturday, the 7th of June, I left Kirkland's Cafe Ladro at 8 a.m. Pacific Time. I traveled 405 - 90 - 82 - 84 - 86 to American Falls, Idaho. I stopped to see the Teapot Dome and Darigold. I stopped at several scenic overlooks to take pictures. I arrived at my friends' house at 10:15 p.m. Mountain Time. That was a very long day! Marc & Michelle and their beautiful daughters welcomed me with open arms. I spent Sunday with them and left Monday after a leisurely breakfast.
Monday was spent driving to Salt Lake City. I saw the Great Salt Lake from the freeway, but was unable to get to it when I tried getting off the [most likely wrong] exit. So I drove around downtown SLC and didn't want to pay for parking, so headed back to the freeway. The drive out of SLC to Park City is fabulous! I didn't actually go into the city itself, just stopped at the outlets. I drove to Rock Springs, Wyoming and paid too much for a hotel room. But that is apparently common as there are no other towns/lodgings for miles around! Gas was also expensive there.
Tuesday was another gorgeous, sunny day. I had been not warm on Monday, so I wore jeans, socks, Dansko clogs, and 2 t-shirts. I got out of the car in Fort Collins, Colorado and it was 90 degrees. I can't win! I toured the Anheiser-Busch plant there. I am fascinated by the process, if not the product. Then I went across town to the New Belgian Brewing Company. I had heard a lot about them and their sustainability. I also like their logo. It was such a neat building, if less comprehensive tour. I saw a herd of American Bison after that and spent the night in Sidney, Nebraska. It kinda far from the freeway, but the room was cheap. The Mexican restaurant across the parking lot was cheap. The gas was $3.75!
Wednesday morning, I was on the road at 6:30 a.m. I went to Starbucks in North Platte. My next stop was in Gotenburg to see the Original Pony Express Station. It's not in it's original location, but it was well-preserved and very cool to see. I didn't see much else that day. Just drove all the way across Nebraska. It's boring until you get about 10 miles west of Lincoln. Then you get traffic. Or what I like to call civilization. (That's pretty hard to spell in a text message while you are driving...) I got to my friend Debbie's house, on the south east corner of Des Moines, Iowa, about 4:30. I ate dinner with her family and then went to prayer meeting with them.
This morning, I had every intention of getting on the road at a decent hour, but that was not meant to be. After breakfast, we sat at the table drinking coffee & chatting until it was time to get lunch for her kids. After lunch, she & I continued talking until it was time to go to town to run errands. I went with them to Walgreens before getting on the road. At 4:00 p.m. Yeah, I wasn't planning on staying that late! But it worked out well. I drove thru a massive thunderstorm - ick! But there was absolutely no traffic in Chicago. Hooray!
I am spending the night at [an overpriced] Comfort Inn in Gary, Indiana. I wanted to get east of Chicago so I'd have less far to go on Friday. And now I do. I plan to be home by tomorrow night. I will be glad to be there, but I've been enjoying the adventure.
Thank you all for your thoughts and/or prayers. I miss you!
xo
p.s. I've been taking pictures along the way, but they need some editing and it's WAY past my bedtime. I'll post them after I get home.
