home again, home again (?)
Greetings from humid Vestal, NY.
I arrived home around 9 p.m. Friday evening. It was a trying day. I didn't get enough sleep on Thursday night and had lots of traffic & weather from there on. It made me realize how much I appreciated that open roads that were out west.
Oh, right. A correction is in order. I spent Thursday night in Portage, Indiana rather than Gary. I was on the phone going thru Chicago AND Gary, IN. I got to Portage and decided I was too tired to go on. So that's where I crashed. At yet another over-priced room. But the wireless was great - yay! :)
After spending full days in Wyoming & Nebraska, I was in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania & New York on Friday. It rained in the last 3, often so hard that it was difficult to see. And even harder to take pictures of the "Welcome to [blank]" signs. Grr!
I stopped only for gas or food and not to see any points of interest. Which doesn't add any interest. I did, however, drive thru Cleveland. At one point, you get to the lake and take a sharp right. On the freeway! At 40 m.p.h.! Which also makes for difficulty in photo ops!
Crossing from Pennsylvania into New York felt like coming home. The rolling hills and green roadsides were a welcome change from big city and, farther west, tumbleweeds. But it was still a long drive from there - like 4 hours. I stopped at Wegman's in Hornell for "dinner" and got coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Talk about being home...!
Driving into my neighborhood, I felt like I was getting home from my friend Susan's house. (Except that she doesn't live in NY anymore and I'd been driving longer than 3.5 hours.) But when I walked into my apartment, I was hit with the reality that I was no longer traveling and was indeed going to live there.
So I'm back in Vestal. Loads of unpacking left to do and the realization that I'm staying here is sinking in with the humidity....
Missing you!
